When planning a tiling project in Nepal, the truth is that there is no set price for tiling. You'll get a realistic range, with the reasons behind what drives the number, and it makes sense when a contractor quotes you on something as opposed to random. This guide covers the cost of the tile material, the labour cost to install it, and a complete worked example, to give you a rough idea of what to expect before calling anyone in.

The following rates are valid as of August 2026 and are indicative of the market range of construction companies and tile suppliers in Nepal. These are guidelines only and will vary from site to site.

Brand also matters. Tile Installation and Labour Cost in Nepal

This is the number that most people don't think about, and often why they are confused about "why is my quote higher than what I read online". Installation cost includes basic surface preparation, grouting, labour and adhesive/mortar. Does not contain the tile.

Say, you are installing a full floor tiling job around 1,000 square feet with 1/2" thick Vitrified Tiles, then the cost of labour and installation materials typically ranges from NPR 120,000 to 150,000, in addition to the cost of the tiles.

The way contractors really compute the cost:

The contractor does not simply choose the installation price out of thin air. A right rate is created from a couple of actual inputs.

Material cost. Tiles, cement, sand and sometimes white cement or tile adhesive at the appropriate cost per square metre (plus wastage, which is typically 10 percent).

Labour cost. The actual laying, cutting and levelling are done by skilled workers and unskilled workers help to mix and transport material. The higher day rate for skilled labour is due to the need to ensure alignment, spacing and level checking are done correctly which requires skill.

Tools and consumables. These include spacers, cutting blades, levelling systems and basic tools, accounting for a small percentage of the total.

Contractor overhead. A formal rate analysis like that used for institutional and/or government scale projects also incorporates contractor overhead and margin and, therefore, a complete engineering style rate analysis for a porcelain tile job may result in a significantly higher per sq.ft. than a simple market quote for a residential project. There is nothing wrong with both numbers being right. One is a formal costed rate, with overhead included, the other is a formal market rate for a typical residential job.

Wastage. Even the most careful tiler will cut pieces that are not going to be used again, particularly around corners, pipes and doorways. Most contractors add about 10 percent to make up for this and that is why the amount of tile ordered should always be more than the raw measured area it is to be used on, and not equal to it.
